Your Webistes Content Getting Stolen
You work hard placing content and photos on your blog site and its nerve wracking when someone comes along and copies your work and puts it their on site as though it was theirs. Of course if you just post bad content or content that no one would be interested in then you will not have then problem, but then your site of course would be just rubbish.
Allot of people on the internet think it's ok for you to take others articles and images for there own use and personal gain. Also allot of people think that the internet is like back in the day of the wild west, and they can just go around and steal what they want without concerquence. Also you have to understand that allot of people are under pressure to fill there blog with great content day in day out and they fail to do so, so they steal your great information.
Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this from happening. Anyone with even a little bit of knowledge about computers can find a way to stop the unauthorized use of your intellectual property. There are a couple of scripts written in an HTML program that disable the right-click mouse function to copy and paste, but even those won't stop the taking of information.
While you might think that it would be law that copying and pasting content on your website would be illegal it's not and this is because they don't class it as theft, but of course you can still hit them for other infringements. So what about all those article directories? they let people steal there content? Well this is different for them because they allot authors to agree to letting other have there content as long as there is a link back to there site, and many authors do this evey day.
Another great idea for tring to put a hold on people stealing your content, is adding a copyrighted law and try to scare those who take your information that there will be punishment. This little reminder may stop the urge to copy your information. Another way would be to see who is copying your work and send them a gentle reminder that they are violating the copyright law.
So how do you find these people? you just need to google your article title or the first couple of lines, or you could set up a google alerts account to watch for your article title, this is also useful for other things. If you do find these people your email should say something about them copying your content and how it's against the law and that they can keep it if they add a link if you want to do this, also let them know exactly what you want.
Even though your intellectual property is copyrighted at the time of completion, registering it with the copyright office will further protect you, as well as offer proof of ownership, should you have to take further legal steps.
If you really want to take it over board you will want to take a copy of everything and the date is was publish. This will help you if they turn around and try and say they created it first. It seems like a lot of work, but if you are having trouble with one site trying to take credit for your work, you will need to do this to protect your property rights.
Another great idea for helping protect your content, is adding the copyright symbol to your pages. This will not stop the most hard core information thieves, but it can slow down the honest people looking for good stuff to put on their own site.
